GBO2 Column #015: Gundam (RX-78-2)
The shifting legacy: From standard-bearer to high-difficulty power unit. (Context: Oct 26, 2020)
The Representative of GBO2
As a representative unit, the Gundam defined the environment at launch. However, as specialized machines emerged, it became regarded as easy to handle but with mediocre performance—unless equipped with high-skill weaponry.
Technical Overview (400 Cost)
While versatile, the Gundam faces challenges due to below-average mobility. Its strengths lie in:
- Melee Priority: High priority allows it to win clashes and compensate for ranged gaps.
- Weapon Versatility: Can choose from three ranged options. Focusing on power (Hammer/Napalm) significantly raises the skill ceiling.
The Hyper Hammer is difficult to land but yields immense power and cannot be countered. Combined with the heavy stun of Super Napalm, it enables devastating combos.
The Struggle for Relevance
In an environment shifting toward high mobility, the Gundam has become a niche, high-difficulty machine. Its current situation reflects a reality where the "standard" choice is no longer enough.
